Kindergarten isn’t what it used to be! By the end of the year students will be reading on their own and doing addition and subtraction problems. While we still make plenty of time for fun and exploration, we do work hard and learn a lot. Throughout the school year there will be lots of opportunities to support your child in their journey, but there are also plenty of things you can do now before they’ve started kindergarten.
I found this handout on getreadytoread.org that outlines some ways you can prepare your child for kindergarten at home before the school year starts. It gives you a checklist and practice ideas for all of these areas:
Language Development
Learning and Thinking
Beginning Reading
Beginning Writing
Numbers and Counting
Physical Development
Social and Emotional Development
A great resource for making sure your student is ready to rock their kindergarten year! Download the handout here or on the readytoread.org website.
